Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project is intended to investigate the possibility of using generic algorithms to determine what temporary facilities to provide on a construction site, their timing and positioning. The information provided by the genetic algorithm will be used in the scheduling procedure to produce better and more realistic programmes of work thereby increasing the productivity and decreasing the uncertainty in the total construction process. Genetic algorithms are modelling techniques based on biological behaviour and they are in their infancy as far as their application to the built environment is concerned; this project is therefore speculative but considered feasible.
