Summary on Grant Application Form
The work will seek to establish viable designs for high power HTS filters for cellar radio systems. The work will exploit the inherent advantages of low loss in HTS deviced and develop initial work in two dimensional resonator filters. The programme will encompass a systematic investigation of the power handling characteristics and Q of different resonator topologies. These will include linear, disk, microstrip and stripline structures. Following a comparison of the simulated and measured results of the simple structures, the modelling of more complex filter structures will be attempted. At this stage the work will produce a scale prototype filter at 3.6GHz and a commercially specified filter at 1.8 GHz (specification supplied by Phase Devices Ltd.) The second stage of this particular task will be the high power testing of the prototypes at 3.6GHz and 1.8GHz. The final task will be the integration of these devices with commercial cryocooler technology (supplied by Hymatic Ltd.) to produce an integrated package viable for industrial exploitation and development.
