Summary on Grant Application Form
Ion-assisted deposition will be used for the deposition of C-N films. An existing UHV chamber attached to an isotope separator with a Kaufman ion source and an e-beam evaporation source will provide wider ranging energy-assisted deposition conditions than hitherto possible. Substrates will be heated to 1000C and in-situ stress measurements made. In addition the use of atomic N beams and encapsulation methods to produce crystalline C-N films will be assessed.
