Summary on Grant Application Form |
The overall objective of the study of end gas autoignition and knock is to provide a better understanding of the phenomena and so promote improved, higher compression ratio, engine design and fuel specifications. This will lead to reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The particular objective of the proposal is to apply various laser diagnostic techniques (Rayleigh, improved CARS and novel infra-red LIGS) to provide temperature field and crucial intermediate species concentration data for the validation of existing Leeds theoretical models for engine flame propagation, autoignition chemistry and knock severity. The laser diagnostic techniques developed will have future applications in other fields of combustion research.
