Summary on Grant Application Form |
Reinshaw scanning Raman microscope, with a number of excitation sources, will be purchased (at 50% discount). Its innovative features of high light throughout and spatial imaging will be applied to a range of electronic materials problems. In semi conductors, these are alloy composition and ordering (SiGe alloys and III-Vs), contactless determination of carrier concentration, measurement of intersub-band separation in quantum wells. In high temperature superconducting thin films, factors affecting their microwave performance (oxygen deficiency, texture, cation disorder, patterning damage) will be studied. Phase formation and homogeneity will be studied in HTS conductors. The application to the new Colossal Magnetoresistance oxides will be explored particularly to investigate phase formation and oxygenation. Applications to other materials (e.g., fast ion conductors, polymers) will be explored.
