Summary on Grant Application Form
The Newton Institute aims to stimulate research throughout the mathematical sciences by organising a series of visitor programmes. These bring together mathematical scientists from UK universities and leading experts from overseas. They meet together for concentrated research on specialised topics, and to exchange ideas and expertise through lectures, seminars and informal contacts made possible by their extended interaction in an attractive purpose-designed building. A typical visitor programme lasts about 6 months with 2 running concurrently from January to June and two from July to December, although slight variations on this basic pattern are planned. Topics chosen for the programmes are focused but each brings together several areas of expertise so as to encourage the cross-fertilisation of ideas between different disciplines.
