Summary on Grant Application Form |
Funding is requested for the purchase of a 400 Mhz MAS NMR spectrometer to enable detailed controlled atmosphere and in situ study of catalytic reactions to be carried out in the Leverhulme Centre for Innovative Catalysis. Experiments are planned in the following areas.1. development of controlled atmosphere and in situ MAS NMR capabilities for the study of catalytic reactions as a function of time and temperature.2. study of reaction mechanism by in situ MAS nmr using 13C labelling of reactants and intermediates. Initial research will focus on the mechanism of activation of alkanes and the alkylation of aromatic compounds using alkanes.3. in situ studies of catalytic oxidation. Initial studies will study the course of the oxidation of alkenes with hydrogen peroxide over microporous and mesoporous materials using in situ conditions.4. Characterisation and reactivity of metal complexes and clusters. Initial studies will concentrate on solid state multinuclear NMR studies of transition metal carbonyl clusters and the study of molecular complexes of hydrogen and metal hydride complexes.
