Summary on Grant Application Form
The author's Advanced Fellowship Programme includes a planned extension for ongoing studies of shear-rheology by high-frequence shearware interferometry to determinsation of tensile compressional and extensional wave propagation is beign developed to this end. By analysing the propogation, reflection and conversion of negative pressure pulses, generated ab-initio in test systems, dynamuc tensile and compressional bulk moduli will be determined (within the same apparatus in a single experiment). These will be compared for a range of physicochemical conditions (pH, ionic strength, solids concentration) in aqueous dispertions of a model colloid for rheological studies. The analysis will be extended to allow the equibiaxial viscosity of elastic liquid systems to be determined from measurements of vapour cavity dynamics.
