Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research will investigate the quality:price relationship for construction work so that a meaningful basis for determining value for money can be found. The research will identify areas where cost, not value, is added needlessly during design and construction through study of the supply chain. Two elements will be targeted cladding and high quality internal finishes where the UK faces a serious balance of payment deficit in the supply of materials and components. Technology transfer from manufacturing into construction will occur through the application of benchmarking and other tools and techniques falling within the framework of business process re-engineering. Insights gained from manufacturing will need to help identify factors that are critical to achieving maximum value for money for the client from construction work.
