Summary on Grant Application Form |
Business process identification and re-engineering: (i) to undertake a broad SWOT analysis of the UK civil engineering industry in order to focus other aspects of the work; (ii) to analyse business process activity and the development of a suitable form of benchmarking for this industry and, (iii) to use that benchmarking process between the main contractor and both suppliers and clients with a view to total value chain re-engineering. Construction options and life cycle assessment will link technical civil engineering factors to business and social considerations through a study of whole life costs, energy and environmental implications. Appropriate methods of financial analysis and control test will be conducted to establish whether recent costing developments in Activity Based Costing, Cost of Quality calculations and methods informed by the Theory of Constraints can be successfully applied in civil engineering to show where re-engineering will be most profitable.
