Summary on Grant Application Form |
The structure of the UK construction industry suffers from fragmentation of effort and adversarial relationships among various parties (See for example the Latham Report). Such an environment inhibits effective utilisation of new technologies and new organisational forms. The proposed research will assess the nature of current problems and inhibitors, and will seek to establish systematic and systematic means of eliminating them. This research uses a carefully selected mix of methodology as appropriate to the complex and dynamic domain that it investigates. The early phases of the research utilise in-depth interviewing techniques, problem structuring methods, structured systems analysis and design techniques, and soft systems methodology to develop a rich picture of the domain and the interests and concerns of the various actors (stakeholders). Building on this, the research focus shifts to one of action research within live projects. For the final phase of dissemination an interpretive and case study approach is used to provide a rich output of challenging material for the industry sector to absorb.
