Summary on Grant Application Form |
There are several roles of investigation: 1. To determine new and striking effects in the interaction between driven two-level atomic systems and squeezed light, in which the nonclassical aspects of the latter play an essential role; and, by identifying the unique characteristics of the interactions, to investigate applications of squeezed light which have no parallel with classical sources. 2. To describe in detail realistic scenarios for investigating these effects, thereby stimulating experimental work. This is timely, as it is becoming feasible to test these phenomena. 3. To discuss applications which exploit the unique characteristics of squeezed light. To date we have identified laser cooling, the two-photon dressed laser, the correlated emission laser, and lasing without inversion. 4. To study cavity QED in the absence of the squeezed vacuum, but including bichromatic excitation. Many interesting new results have been reported in this area. 5. To develop in parallel analytic and numerical approaches for treating the cavity situation. 6. If time permits, to further develop the non-equilibrium Greens function approach.
