Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is intended to investigate the feasibility of developing a new detinning process for upgrading low-quality tin scrap into valuable raw materials for both the steel and the chemical industry. Underlacquered industrial/consumer/heterogenous waste tin scrap and post-incinerated tin scrap will be reacted with a gaseous mixture containing chlorine and oxygen in order to selectively chlorinate the tin coating to produce good quality steel scrap and pure tin chloride. An appraisal considering the technology, financial, economics and clean technology benefits of the process will be prepared for the future pilot studies.Key Words: Recycling of Packaging Materials, upgrading of scrap, waste minimisation.
