Summary on Grant Application Form |
Recently manufacturing industry has undergone considerable change with the development of new methods of organisational regeneration (e.g. BPR, TQM, Lean Production, World Class Manufacturing, Teamworking). However the failure to subsequently adapt performance evaluation and control systems has proved significant in terms of lost competitive advantage. Therefore organisational practices regarding performance evaluation and change of competitive advantage is to be assured. The aim of the proposed research is to develop a methodology, which will enable managers to both appraise performance evaluation and control systems and implement any changes deemed necessary thereby enhancing the quality of information available they produce and their motivational impact. This methodology will be developed by the production of a set of case study data, from collaborating organisations, which will investigate: current practices regarding performance evaluation and control in manufacturing units; the degree of fit between performance evaluation and control and members tasks, the technologies in use and the organisations manufacturing strategy, and facilitate the management of the changes identified as necessary.
