Summary on Grant Application Form |
Adhesive bonding offers considerable potential for weight reduction in vehicles. The application of this technology for automotive assembly requires design tools and procedures for the determination of structural behaviour of vehicle bodies with bonded joints. In this project, computer modelling techniques will be developed to provide an analytical base for the performance of bonded structures. Results from the FE models will be validated by experimental measurement of adhesive bonded vehicle body details. The model will be refined to provide design tools which will enable critical joint dimensions and component optimisation to be obtained. These details will then be applied to determine component dimensions, tolerances and process specification for the manufacture of a bonded structural sub-assembly.
