Summary on Grant Application Form |
The main theme of the proposed workshop will be the dynamical consequences of time-reversal symmetry in dynamical systems. The field comprises the study of dynamical systems (ordinary differential equations and diffeomorphisms) that possess symmetry properties which involve the reversal of the time-direction. In particular the workshop aims to address time-reversal symmetry in combination with other symmetry properties of dynamical systems, time-reversible versus Hamiltonian dynamics, and time-reversal symmetry in applications. The workshop intends to bring together scientists from different branches of mathematics and physics who have been dealing with time-reversal symmetry in dynamical systems in recent years. Although the importance of time-reversal symmetry is widely acknowledged, to our best knowledge this will be the first meeting that is primarily devoted to time-reversal symmetry in dynamical systems. Therefore it is expected to play an important role in the future development of this field of research, firstly by establishing a reference point for the state of the art in mathematics on reversible dynamical systems and its applications to problems in physics, and secondly, by creating a platform for new collaborations.
