This proposal aims to provide generic research into geometric, thermal and load errors and improve on the current production techniques by developing and applying error compensation methodologies that will correct for significant repeatable errors. The methodology will be applicable to all common machine tool types and configurations. Generic training/calibration procedures will be established to aid compensation implementation. Our proposed strategy involves identification and automatic compensation of these errors to deliver right first-time performance, the correction being applied via the controller to the machine motion control system.
