Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research carried out by the core science team will test the hypothesis that very stable complexes can be formed at metal surfaces by using ligands with rigid preorganised arrays of donor atoms matching the metal network geometry in the surface oxides. Structural studies of model polynuclear complexes of good surface ligands and molecular modelling will be used to establish their modes-of-action and to guide the design of new ligands for metal substrates of particular industrial importance, e.g. aluminium and zinc. The development of ligands which are tailor-made for specific end-users will be undertaken in a series of exploitation projects which will be established and funded separately during the core science programme .
