Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is proposed to develop a novel instrumentation system that will allow the measurement of strain in a roller chain link whilst the chain is under load in a high speed drive. The instrumentation system will be used to obtain data from a two sprocket under constant load and cyclically varying load, and subsequently from a camshaft drive of a real internal combustion engine. The data obtained will be used both directly to improve our knowledge of the loading of high speed chain drives and to validate a simulation to be developed in a parallel project. The simulation program will be used by the industrial sponsor as a design tool in future chain development.
