Summary on Grant Application Form
The work is to formulate a quantitative account of the response of the stator windings of motors (with induction motors mostly in mind ) to high frequency components in the wave form of the supply. This calls for the computation of inductance, losses and capacitance of the windings and the distribution of the quantities through the windings. A mixture of adaption of exact formulae for geometries approximating those in typical machines and of finite element and related procedures will be used. Both simple and more complex procedures will be developed with an emphasis on construction of easy calculational prcedures. A good physical understanding of the chief phenomena will also be elucidated.Studies of the losses in and effective permeability of motor core steel laminations will also be undertaken in support of this work at the Universtiy of Cardiff. The use of frequency response to predict to transients will also be undertaken.Comparison of predictions with measurements on actual machines will be undertaken.Work we have already done and study of the literature show that resonances and anti-resonances occur typically at several tens and hundreds of kilohertz. It is this work we wish to consolidate
