|
International safeguards authorities monitor the operation of civil nuclear utilities. Whilst standard statistical techniques are in routine use it is acknowledged that best use is not made of the most advance methodology. Moreover, certain problems arising in safeguards highlight weaknesses in the available methodology and understanding and the need for further research. In particular the initial calibration of process vessels leads to longitudinal errors-in-variables regression data with an unknown number of slope changes at unknown locations. Analysis techniques for such data are not yet fully developed. The project will begin therefore with specification and assessment of a Bayesian approach to predictive inference for this generic problem. It will then consider statistical aspects of the design of measurement control programmes. A general approach will be developed to modelling the error structure within a complex network of measurement points of various types.
