Summary on Grant Application Form |
The production of antihydrogen at low energies where it is amenable to trapping and, thus, precision experimentation remains a long term goal in atomic physics. Much progress towards this end has been made in recent years, however the decision by CERN to close the Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at the end of 1996 has cast some uncertainty on the future of this enterprise. The application is for interim support, mainly to ensure continued participation in antihydrogen preparation experiments and for consultation with collaborators whilst discussions take place concerning a new programme of low energy antiproton physics at CERN.
