Summary on Grant Application Form |
The main objective of this project is to develop a method for the prediction of open site industrial noise which is both simple and where an estimate of the accuracy of the prediction is included. The method will be in an accessible form for use at the project planning stage by the parties involved in potential noise complaints, including contractors, developers, environmental health officers and planners. Existing methods recommended in the British Standard BS5228:1984, although detailed are rarely used and then only at the appeal stage. The new approach will be different in that the noise generation and propagation processes will be represented statistically. Noise sources and propagation paths (including the effects of distance, ground cover and screening and meteorological conditions) will be represented by mean values with variances and the predicted noise level will be represented in the same way.
