Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project addresses several aspects related to CAD-orientated inspection and reverse engineering of components containing free form surfaces defined as NURBS. The first aspect is acurate measurement of a sufficiently large number of points to characterise the surface. This will be addressed by employing suitable contact and non-contact sensors ona coordinate measuring machine, with measurement planning in terms of registration and probe path generation being performed on the basis of the nominal CAD model. The experimental work will form a significant part of the project. the second aspect is that of software best fitting between the measured points with the nominal model, as part of error analysis. This will be addressed by filtering of the measurement data and by fitting spline surface through the points. Segmentation problems will beaddressed by usefully employing the existing CAD definition of the nominal geometry. Data exchange with external CAD systems will be realised through IGES interfaces. The methodology will be evaluated on the example of components provided by the user partners.
