Summary on Grant Application Form |
Throughout the past five years the Warwick group has been able to use the Accumulation Ring, KEK which has been a major centre for high resolution Compton scattering and virtually the only source for magnetic Compton scattering. With the imminent closure of that synchrotron ring and the commissioning of the high energy beamline at ESRF we wish to build up our programme in Grenoble by collaborating with European colleagues of longstanding. The determination of site specific spin moments by magnetic Compton scattering forms the core programme with studies of ferromagnetic actinide compounds and the Pd-Co alloys system. There will also be a study of the spin dependent scattering cross-scattering for intrinsic interest and for the development of the experimental technique. High resolution studies will be made of oriented high Tc material to establish whether superconductivity has an observable signature in the Compton profile. Finally there will be a study of large band gap semiconductors. The provision of PDRA is the main request in the grant application.
