Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the research is to develop a novel multiphase membrane reactor system which is capable of supporting a liquid phase catalyst for gas/liquid reactions. The Ceramic Membrane Mediated Homogeneous Catalytic Reactor (CMM-HCR) is intended to overcome the mass transfer limitations inherent in most multiphase catalytic systems whilst also alleviating the equilibrium limitations and material constraints that severely reduce the efficiencies of reactions such as the hydration of alkenes to alcohols. This novel hybrid reactor concept embraces supported liquid phase catalyst and membrane reactor technologies.
