Summary on Grant Application Form
This application seeks funding to develop a new strategy in the synthesis of organically functionalised hybrid mesoporous silicas by the simultaneous condensation of tetraethoxysilane and organosiloxanes in the presence of cationic surfactant templates. The intention is to explore a new synthetic strategy that will result in a new class of meso-structured materials that are both inorganic and organic in architecture. We anticipate that these hybrid materials will have interesting catalytic and separation properties through incorporation of organic and organometallic components. Our immediate focus is on the synthesis and characterisation of the new materials although in the longer term it is our goal to collaborate with other researchers involved with investigating their catalytic properties.
