Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to develop practical synthetic methods for the efficient, iterative construction of extended polypropionate chains, containing an unprecedented number of contiguous stereogenic centres. A high level of structural diversity should be possible in these novel polypropionate libraries by variation in the building blocks employed, the number of chain extensions, the stereochemical information, oxidation state, unsaturation and the introduction of ring systems. The three-dimensional structures and physical properties of these highly substituted polyol chains, which are expected to have distinct conformational preferences, will be determined
