Summary on Grant Application Form |
This application comes under the Joint Research Equipment Initiative. We are requesting funding for 4 high performance Silicon Graphics Workstations based on the forthcoming R10000 processor. The equipment will be funded through a 50% discount off the already educationally discounted price (see Section (e) of Appendix A of the Case for Support). The workstations will be used in a range of computationally intensive engineering applications. In the Case of Support we illustrate these applications with a number of current projects including condition monitoring and novelty detection, aerodynamic modelling, an investigation of neural computing architectures which are easy to implement in VLSI, the computational modelling of composite materials etc. These projects do not exhaust the list of our projects but are meant to illustrate typical areas where high performance workstation equipment would be very useful. Many of these projects are currently supported by EPSRC.
