Summary on Grant Application Form
Currently software datasets are analysed very superficially, particularly heterogeneous datasets used for benchmarking and trend analysis. This project will review the techniques used in medical studies to collect and analyse medical data. In particular, the project will review ideas about 'meta-analysis' which is a technique that allows evidence to be accumulated from different studies. The project will identify methods that are appropriate for analysing software datasets, allowing for non-Normal nature of software data and the lack of balance in most software datasets (ie unequal number of projects in different categories). The methods will be tested on existing datasets and reviewed for relevance by the collaborating company that runs a benchmark service.
