Summary on Grant Application Form |
Recent developments in modelling have allowed us to explore the optical response of highly blazed-overhanging gratings. Such structures, found in nature, may give spectacular colour selectivity, polarisation conversion and strong metallic reflectance even though they are merely dielectric structures. The aim is to employ a PhD student to fabricate `overhung' gratings and to fully explore their optical properties over the visible spectrum both in reflection and transmission. The work will begin with the simplest monogratings of zero-order developing progressively to complex bigratings.
