Summary on Grant Application Form |
The programme addresses specific technological imperatives raised by the insertion of broadband mobile wireless systems into the telecommunications infrastructure. In the work proposed here, minimum complexity architectures based on novel active antenna circuit topologies will be studied for their functionality as self-tracking antenna arrays. These arrays will utilise fundamental physical phenomena to self track incoming signals from an arbitrarily ( or to return direction spatially power combined signals to an arbitrarily) located receiver without the use of additional feedback or control circuitry. This involves extending active antenna element techniques. Consideration will be given to MMIC integration. Disseminated results are expected to influence the development of receivers for high performance Broadband Wireless Systems. The results of the programme are likely to be very commercially attractive and it is intended to work closely with potential end users (e.g. Short/Thompson) throughout the programme.
