Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposal outlines a programme of research that will investigate some new approaches to capacitance transducer design. These will improve performance, and reduce some of the present disadvantages, such as damage due to dielectric breakdown, polarisation effects and the effects of moisture. In air-coupled work, the problems cased by water vapor and turbulence will be reduced by the investigation of a new argon gas-jet transducer. Applications to be studied include air-coupled imaging of composite samples, the use of capacitance devices for wide bandwidth ultrasonic immersion testing, and their use in microphone calibration work. Three industrial partners have been identified, and form part of the proposal.
