Summary on Grant Application Form |
1) exciton dynamics in crystalline systems :- we will use resonant excitation to examine very fast emission and resonant Rayleigh scattering from state-of -the-art GaAs quantum wells. The results should assist in the development of a more complete model of exciton formation, dephasing, emission and Rayleigh scattering sought by the wide community working on optoelectronic applications of III-V materials, and assist in the refinement of processing methods for GaAs and material systems other than GaAs.2) excitation dynamics in PPV-based polymers :- we will continue our present work aimed at improving understanding of microscopic processes involved in emission, and thereby aiding work relevant to display applications (pursued by Professor Friend and others). In particular we want to understand the dynamics of carrier migration by site-selective spectroscopy, we wish to determine the kinetics of emission and polarisation relaxation as a function of the initial excitation energy, and we wish to identify the exciton interaction processes which deplete optical gain under high optical injection.
