Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the project is to develop the first model of a particulate recording medium with a realistic physical microstructure and to apply the model to a study of the static and dynamic magnetic properties of Advanced Metal Particle recording media. Physical microstructures will be produced using the Keele Molecular Dynamics model, which will also be used to study the orientation process in particulate media. The properties of the model particulate medium will be simulated using a dynamic approach based on a Hamiltonian formalism and a hierarchical approach will be used to calculate interaction fields. The magnetic properties of systems produced with a range of packing densities and under different orienting field conditions will be studied in order to investigate the relation between physical microstructure, interactions effects and bulk magnetic properties. In addition to static magnetic properties the effects and bulk magnetic properties. In addition to static magnetic properties the effects of interactions on the high frequency dynamic behaviour will be investigated.
