Summary on Grant Application Form
Funds are requested to purchase a pulsed field gradient accessory, a multinuclear gradient probe, a digital quadrature detection accessory, and a replacement main computer for the 400 MHz NMR spectrometer at Heriot-Watt.The equipment requested is intended to reduce overall turn-around times and improve spectrum quality for several research groups both within the Chemistry Department and from other departments at Heriot-Watt University which use the departmental NMR facilities.Host-guest chemistry and natural products structure determination are major themes within the Chemistry Department and in interdisciplinary collaborations with the Department of Biological Sciences at Heriot-Watt. The requested equipment will provide access to diffusion-ordered NMR experiments (DOSY) for the study of host-guest complexation and composition/structure analysis of natural product mixtures.
