Summary on Grant Application Form |
The objective of this research proposal is to develop and demonstrate the potential and the effectiveness of a rule-based strategy for the control of the thermal environment in naturally ventilated spaces. A rule-based controller will be developed which implements sets of general and portable fuzzy rules derived from off-line thermal modelling and expert knowledge. The inputs to the rule-based controller are the room specification, indoor and outdoor temperatures, and wind velocity and direction. Based on the inputs and the expert rules, the output from the controller is the position of an airflow control element. An experimental programme will establish the effectiveness of the control strategy by measuring temperature distribution within a test room with and without the control system being active.
