|
It is proposed to invite Dr Soskin to Lancaster to support our continuing research programme on zero-dispersion (ZD) oscillators, which display a wide range of distinctive and often counter-intuitive phenomena. Theory and experiment will advance together in a complementary mutually supportive way, taking full advantage of the excellent facilities that will be available in the Lancaster nonlinear laboratory (currently being upgraded by EPSRC). Transition rates in the periodically driven tilted Duffing oscillator (TDO) will be calculated by the optimal path method; fluctuation spectra will be calculated by application of an averaging method to the relevant Fokker-Planek equation; the ZD stochastic resonance calculations will be based on computer codes developed by Soskin previously , which will be applied to underdamped SQUIDs. The results will in principle be applicable to all ZD systems, including not only SQUIDs but also e.g. relativistic oscillators and particle accelerators, where closely analogous behaviour is to be anticipated.
