We intend to develop a new ultra-sensitive single-photon level imaging camera to produce a microscope capable of imaging the very low level of light emitted by oxidation of polymers and the thermoluminescnce of epoxy resins. This will be applied to studies, at the 1-2 mm level, of the distribution of cure in epoxy resins, of the stress distribution in resins of water penetration in resins. It will also be used to study heterogeneous oxidation in polymers, blends and polymer-metal interfaces.
