Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is focused on flow and deposition behaviour that occurs in filters incorporating shear fields, such as dynamic filters (torsion shear flows) and pressure belt filters (compressional shear flows). A rigorous study of particle deposition on filter media in torsional and compressional shear flows is to be carried out experimentally and mathematically. The experiments will create a database of deposition behaviour from structured suspensions of well-controlled properties in shear flow filters. The modelling will incorporate recent developments in diffusion in shear flows and recognise particle interactions.
