Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the project is to investigate the feasibility of automating mechanical failure mode effects analysis for automotive subsystems using information extracted from CAD drawings. It will do this by studying how automotive engineers perform mechanical FMEA and attempting to duplicate their reasoning about faults by abstracting qualitative information from the CAD drawings. The qualitative information about mechanical device operation can be used for simulation of correct and faulty versions of the device, and linked to descriptions of device function in order to reason about the effects of failures on mechanical devices.
