Summary on Grant Application Form
Preliminary work by the applicants has shown that a fuel staged burner with a lean (0.6 equivalence ratio) primary zone can give below 20 ppm NOx at 0% oxygen for 0.9 overall equivalence ratio with Natural gas, much lower than can be achieved in any other type of low NOx burner at this near stiochiometric equivalence ratio. The aim of this work is to investigate the fundamentals of this concept by undertaking gas analysis traverses and CFD modelling of the NOx. The concept will also be scaled to larger burner sizes and to gas turbine primary zone conditions. Application to staged combustion with oxygen addition will be investigated for high temperature reduced NOx combustion.
