Summary on Grant Application Form |
We intended to explore the simultaneous use of ellipsometry and magneto-optic (MO) polarimetry, to follow the nucleation and growth of sub-nanoscale multilayered structures that form advanced materials with potential applications as sensors and recording media. We aim to follow the evolution of physical properties in novel structures that should show, for example: inhomogeneous magnetisation in materials that hitherto have only been shown to exist theoretically. The simultaneous use of optical and MO techniques will be evaluated for their ability to monitor developing film properties such as magnetisation, interfacial roughness and interdiffusion of materials, all of which are important for ultra-thin and multilayered media.
