Summary on Grant Application Form |
The phase shifting technique offers the potential for quantifying both the magnitude and direction of principle stresses in dynamic photoelasticity. It is proposed to develop an optical arrangement that permits the simulataneous capture of four phase stepped images through a single high speed camera. The proof of this concept will enable the scope and power of dynamic photoelasticity to be significantly extended. The approach is novel in that previously quantitative data has not been obtainable from dynamic photoelasticity, and in earlier phases stepping instruments four cameras were needed.
