Summary on Grant Application Form |
We aim to develop a template assisted polymerisation of acrylic substituted nucleosides to enable the controlled synthesis of novel biopolymer mimics. the conditions under which the polymerisation will be carried out will promote the formation of specific hydrogen bonding interactions between complimentary nucleobases. the catalyst used is recently developed and allows excellent control of polydispersity and number molecular weight. Kinetic analysis of the polymerisation will be used to characterise the process; structural analysis of the polymers using nmr and mass spectrometry will enable detail such as chemical sequence copolymers to be elucidated. The novel biopolymers will be investigated for their interaction with nucleic acids.
