Summary on Grant Application Form |
The increasing aged population presents significant challenges to the biomaterials as there is an increasing requirement for more appropriate biofunctional materials for use in the development of long term medical implants to facilitate health aging. Although phosphobetaines have recently been employed to improve the biocompatibility of a range of ocular and vascular medical implants there has been little systematic evaluation of the use of other betaines for such applications. The aim of this project is to undertake a preliminary investigation into the synthesis of polymeric cabobetaine based materials and to evaluate their potential as novel biocompatible materials.
