Summary on Grant Application Form |
Poly-benz-imidazolones are the only membranes that are known not to swell and to exhibit high flux and selectivity among chlorinated solvents. This might be explained by an idealised but unique model of a hydrogen bonded network between pairs of polymer chains giving rise to 'shape selective' voids. Modelling and molecular dynamics simulations will be used to refine the idealised model and to predict new molecules as synthetic targets for novel polymer membranes for solvent separations.
