Summary on Grant Application Form |
Planar microcavity light-emitting diode structures offer scope for controlling spontaneous and stimulated emission rates. A problem with such structures is the variation of wavelength of emission as the cosine of the (internal) viewing angle. We will develop general methods that allow this to be reduced, through the use of cavity optical length dispersion. This will be achieved by selection of the optical constants of the emissive layers and also of distributed Bragg reflector mirrors. Exemplification will be made using polymeric semiconductors as emissive layers.
