Summary on Grant Application Form |
New, well defined molecular metalloborate alkoxides will be synthesised and used for the solution deposition of metal borate thin films. A particularly challenging aspect will be the development of routes to molecules incorporating trigonal BO3 units as a means of optimising NLO properties and processing temperatures. The project will include the construction of a controlled-atmosphere deposition chamber which would eliminate the need for clean-room facilities. This approach will create new opportunities for processing state-of-the-art optical borate ceramics, and will also enable the optical properties of new anisotropic borate materials to be assessed.
