Summary on Grant Application Form
Polymer supported polyoxometalates (POMs) will be synthesised and characterised by complementary methods: surface modification of preformed organic polymers, and co-polymerisation of POMs bearing polymerisable monomer units. The latter approach will give rise to networked polymers with controllable architecture. The bound POMs will be analysed for chemical and physical properties (redox activity, electrical, optical and magnetic). The interaction of the bound POMs with electron donor molecules will also be examined, to create novel electronic materials. The potential applications of these modified polymers as inter alia fuel-cells catalysts and light emitting devices will be evaluated in collaboration with expert colleagues.
